World Mental Health Day

mental-health-day

So today is a day that should be celebrated loud, with smiles and with open arms.  Mental health should be talked about every day, out in the open, freely, like it is a normal thing because to some people the struggle is their norm.  To not talk about it or to hush it and push it under the rug is part of the problem.  Share your experiences and be open about your feelings if you can because we all have a story to tell.

Check out these stats from the National Alliance of Mental Health…

  • Approximately 1 in 5 adults in the U.S.—43.8 million, or 18.5%—experiences mental illness in a given year.
  • Approximately 1 in 25 adults in the U.S.—10 million, or 4.2%—experiences a serious mental illness in a given year that substantially interferes with or limits one or more major life activities.

Mental Health By the Numbers

Those are some sad numbers.  The fact that it is so prominent yet has such a stigma attached to it is just plain sad.  So use your voice, tell your story and spread the word.

Thanks for reading.
